Amanda Knox Trial In Italy

Amanda Knox Faces New Trial for Slander

Italian Court to Re-Examine Amanda Knox's Conviction

Trial to Focus on Allegations Against Congolese Man

ROME - An Italian court has opened a new trial against Amanda Knox, the American woman who spent nearly four years in an Italian prison after being wrongly convicted of murder. This time, Knox is facing charges of slander for allegedly making false statements about a Congolese man who was also convicted in the case.

The new trial stems from a 2016 lawsuit filed by Patrick Lumumba, who was convicted of drug dealing in connection with the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher. Knox had alleged that Lumumba had sold her and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito drugs in the lead-up to the murder, a claim that Lumumba denied.

Knox's slander trial is expected to focus on whether she knowingly made false statements about Lumumba. If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison. Knox has denied any wrongdoing and has said that she is being targeted because she is a woman and because she has spoken out against the Italian justice system.
